Abstract The tendencies of making and implementing FTAs in the Asia-Pacific region (APR) are analyzed. Problems of carrying out FTA-oriented trade policy by APR countries are determined. Issues of Japanese foreign trade policy concerning conclusion and implementation of FTAs with APR countries in 2000–2006 are considered. Assessment is given of the current condition and prospects of Japanese foreign trade policy with APR countries as part of concluded and planned FTAs
