Abstract Problems of the spatial science formation are studied. Capacities and limitations of the Program by the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences «Fundamental Problems of Spatial Development of the Russian Federation: An Interdisciplinary Synthesis» are shown. The conceptual framework of the Program is analyzed. It is shown that the spatial aspect of multidimensional economic systems in modern conditions can not be adequately described by the existing approaches
